VII. FRANCHISE and TRANSITION TAG RULES
7.1
FRANCHISE Tag
There are two types of FRANCHISE TAGS that GMs may use
on their RFA players
1. Traditional
Franchise Tag (cost
25 blb) this tag gives GMs the ability to receive
compensation of two 1st round picks in the event that this player is
signed by another team.
2. SUPER
Franchise Tag (Cost
75 blb) this tag allows GMs to avoid the RFA session
altogether and the player remains the property of the franchise that places the
tag on him.
Each TBL franchise will be
allowed to use ONE form of the franchise tag
when it is available to be used.
Franchise
tags must be declared prior to RFA. (TBL commissioner will announce the
deadline)
Franchise tags can only be used on players who are RFA.
Traditional Franchise Tag players
participate in RFA. SUPER Franchise Tag players do not!
If a player that has the franchise tag placed on him is signed by another team during the RFA period the team that signs him must compensate the player’s former team with two first round picks. (picks may be in the same draft; however compensation must be within a 2-year period) EXAMPLE: If (team A) loses Hines Ward to team B in 2005. (Team B) must give (team A) two 1st round draft picks (they can both be in the 2005 draft or one in 2005 and one in 2006). When a tagged player signs with another team, the team that placed the tag on the player regains the tag and is free to use it again the following RFA session.
*** In the event that the team has multiple
picks, compensation must be within 4 draft slots of where the player was
originally drafted and the team receiving the compensation will be entitled to
the highest pick that the other team posses so long as it is within the 4 slot
limit.
ALL
compensatory picks MUST be approved by the TBL Commissioner.
All tagged players must receive a minimum 3 year contract or greater.
Once the tag is used owners cannot use their tag again until:
A. The tagged player's contract expires OR three years pass
from the time that the player received the designation.
B. The tagged player is released.
Franchises do not get their tag back if the tagged player is traded.
If tagged player is traded he will not count as tagged player to new
team.
The cost of using the Traditional Franchise Tag will be (25 blb) The 25 blb goes towards the
player, if a teams wants to bid on your player the bid must start at 21blb.
***In the event the player signs with
another team, the team does NOT receive the 25 blb
back.
If a franchise does not have sufficient blb to cover
the cost of the franchise tag they will be excluded from using their tag.
7.2

There are two types of TRANSITION TAGS that GMs may use on their
RFA players (starting with the 2k9 season)

anther team.
2. SUPER Transition Tag (Cost 55 blb) this tag allows GMs to receive a 1st round pick in the event that the player they placed the transition tag on signs with another team.

This must be within a two year period.

originally drafted and the team receiving the compensation will be entitled to
the highest pick that the other team posses so long as it is within the 4 slot
