TBL RFA Analysis

Atoms
RFA key additions: WR - Javon Walker
WR - Miles Austin
K - Jason Hanson
RFA key losses: WR - Marvin Harrison
WR - Jason Avant
RFA key re-signings: WR - Mark Clayton
TE - Jeremy Shockey
BLB before RFAÕs: 252
BLB after RFAÕs: 145
Needs going into draft: Backup QB, RB
BlakeÕs Take: (C) The Atoms didnÕt really improve their team in the RFAÕs much, but I think Mark Clayton will be better this year and Javon Walker will be a good sleeper pick this year. Miles Austin could also have a good year with T.O. gone in Dallas.
Bombers
RFA key additions: QB - Jeff Garcia
RB - Dominic Rhodes
WR - Antonio Bryant
RFA key losses: QB - Marc Bulger
RB - BenJarvis Green-Ellis
WR - Chris Henry
TE - Donald Lee
RFA key re-signings: WR - Hines Ward
BLB before RFAÕs: 170
BLB after RFAÕs: 65
Needs going into draft: Backup
QB and Backup TE
BlakeÕs Take: (C+) The Bombers improved their WR situation
by adding Antonio Bryant and they were also able to keep Hines. They lost Donald Lee, who could have a
decent year for the Packers.
Crusaders
RFA key additions: TE - Donald Lee
K - John Kasay
RFA key losses: None
RFA key re-signings: QB - Kyle Orton
TE - Bo Scaife
BLB before RFAÕs: 95
BLB after RFAÕs: 63
Needs going into draft: More solid players, More depth, Good TE
BlakeÕs Take: (B-) The Crusaders improved their team by adding Donald Lee and John Kasay. Kasay was a top 5 kicker last year and as most of you know already, they can make or break a team. Orton has finally started playing decent after years of sucking. Scaife is a good sleeper pick this year.
Jousters
RFA key additions: RB - Fred Jackson
WR - Lance Moore
K - Ryan Longwell
DEF - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
RFA key losses: None
RFA key re-signings: WR - Kevin Walter
BLB before RFAÕs: 229
BLB after RFAÕs: 14
Needs going into draft: RB, TE, More Depth
BlakeÕs Take: (A) The Jousters are one of 2 teams that had the best RFAÕs. They improved themselves at every position but QB (which they really didnÕt need). Fred Jackson could be a nice addition with Lynch in trouble again. They grabbed one of the top kickers and defenses from last year as well as Lance Moore.
Mudhawks
RFA key additions: QB - Matt Cassel
RB - BenJarvis Green-Ellis
WR - Steve Smith
RFA key losses: WR - Javon Walker
RFA key re-signings: RB - Pierre Thomas
BLB before RFAÕs: 399
BLB after RFAÕs: 59
Needs going into draft: RB
BlakeÕs Take: (A) The Mudhawks are the other team that had the best RFAÕs. They added Cassel and Steve Smith, who will both do well this year. Green-Ellis is a possible sleeper this year as well.
Rebels
RFA key additions: QB - Chad Pennington
QB - Kerry Collins
RFA key losses: Def - Tennessee Titans
RFA key re-signings: WR - Isaac Bruce
BLB before RFAÕs: 463
BLB after RFAÕs: 374
Needs going into draft: None
BlakeÕs Take: (B) The Rebels secured up their QBÕs this RFA by adding Pennington and Collins. They did lose the Titans D but hopefully the Giants will step in and produce similar results. Isaac Bruce is so old his back is going out more than he does.
Rhinos
RFA key additions: QB - Tyler Thigpen
RB - LeÕRon McClain
WR - Marvin Harrison
WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh
RFA key losses: WR - Roy Williams
RFA key re-signings: WR - Greg Camarillo
BLB before RFAÕs: 283
BLB after RFAÕs: 3
Needs going into draft: Backup QB, WR Depth, TE, K
BlakeÕs Take: (A-) I
would have given the Rhinos an A until the Chiefs signed Cassel. The Rhinos did add a lot of talent to
their team though. Housh-ya-mama
should get some balls in Seattle.
At this point, HarrisonÕs mind is making contracts that his body canÕt
meet.
Terrors
RFA key additions: None
RFA key losses: None
RFA key re-signings: RB - Edgerrin James
BLB before RFAÕs: 237
BLB after RFAÕs: 233
Needs going into draft: WR Depth, TE Depth
BlakeÕs Take: (C-) The Terrors failed to make any
significant moves to better their team except resigning Edge. Actually that isnÕt really significant
anymore unless it was the year 2000.

Alpha Division
Believers
RFA key additions: WR - Michael Jenkins
WR - Chris Henry
DEF - Tennessee Titans
RFA key losses: RB - Dominic Rhodes
RB - Fred Jackson
RB - LeÕRon McClain
DEF - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
RFA key re-signings: QB - Kurt Warner
TE - Owen Daniels
BLB before RFAÕs: 212
BLB after RFAÕs: 1
Needs going into draft: Young RB and WR. Also needs more depth.
BlakeÕs Take: (C+) The Believers extinguished all of
their blb and did not really gain anything extra. They were able to keep some depth, but they are 1 injury
away from being bumped from playoff status. The Believers picked up Kurt Warner straight from the
retirement home and signed him to a 3 year deal.
Condors
RFA key additions: None
RFA key losses: QB - Chad Pennington
TE - Ben Watson
K - Ryan Longwell
RFA key re-signings: QB - Derek Anderson
BLB before RFAÕs: 171
BLB after RFAÕs: 117
Needs going into draft: Possibly QB, WR, TE
BlakeÕs Take: (D) The Condors did not add anyone of significance in the RFAÕs. Losing Pennington could be harmful as they do not have a good backup QB.
Jackrabbits
RFA key additions: None
RFA key losses: QB - Matt Cassel
WR - Domenik Hixon
RFA key re-signings: RB - Peyton Hillis
BLB before RFAÕs: 154
BLB after RFAÕs: 106
Needs going into draft: RB, WR
BlakeÕs Take: (D+) The Jackrabbits lost Cassel and Hixon. Hixon is still a project but losing Cassell could be a big blow if Brady doesnÕt come back strong. Jackrabbits were able to keep Peyton Hillis, but saying he will start in Denver is like guessing the lottery.
Jawbreakers
RFA key additions: QB - Marc Bulger
RB - Leon Washington
WR - Jason Avant
RFA key losses: QB - Jeff Garcia
WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh
WR - Steve Smith
K - John Kasay
BLB before RFAÕs: 274
BLB after RFAÕs: 144
Needs going into draft: WR, Depth
BlakeÕs Take: (Overall F, Jawbreakers B+) The overall grade is not the Jawbreakers fault, but he must live with the outcome of the Stallions not using any tags on Smith and Housh. The Jawbreakers did snag a starting QB and a talented and young RB in Washington. Look for the Jawbreakers to try and move up in the draft.
Maniacs
RFA key additions: None
RFA key losses: RB - Leon Washington
WR - Lance Moore
K - Jason Hanson
BLB before RFAÕs: 87
BLB after RFAÕs: 73
Needs going into draft: Backup QB, Depth
BlakeÕs Take: (D-) The Maniacs failed to resign key players as they watched them go for more blb than they had or wanted to pay. With these losses, the Maniacs are still a strong contender but they lose valuable depth at RB and WR. They must make a push for some depth or they could go from AFC Division Champs to AFC division chumps.
Misfits
RFA key additions: WR - Domenik Hixon
WR - Roy Williams
RFA key losses: WR - Michael Jenkins
RFA key re-signings: QB - Matt Hasselbeck
BLB before RFAÕs: 332
BLB after RFAÕs: 117
Needs going into draft: TE, Depth
BlakeÕs Take: (B+) They lost Jenkins, but the addition of Roy Williams is much better than having Jenkins. Williams is looking to be a very big addition with the release of T.O. Hixon is still a project and Hasselbeck will give him his backup QB.
Replacements
RFA key additions: TE - Ben Watson
RFA key losses: WR - Antonio Bryant
RFA key re-signings: RB - Warrick Dunn
WR - Plaxico Burress
WR - Torry Holt
BLB before RFAÕs: 247
BLB after RFAÕs: 164
Needs going into draft:
BlakeÕs Take: (C) The Replacements added Watson but lost Bryant. This is not an even tradeoff. Rumor has it that the N.Y. Penitentiary football team have been in conversations with the N.Y. Giants about signing Plex to a 3 and a half year deal worth $0. Holt is too busy celebrating his 70th birthday instead of playing this year. Holt invited Warrick Dunn to his party but he is too busy trying to find a job with another team.
Teelers
RFA key additions: None
RFA key losses: None
RFA key re-signings: DEF - Philadelphia Eagles
BLB before RFAÕs: 420
BLB after RFAÕs: 346
Needs going into draft: Another backup QB
BlakeÕs Take: (C-) The
Teelers also failed to grab any of the players up for sale at the RFAÕs. The Teelers really donÕt need anything
going into the season as they have plenty of studs and depth at every position.
*Look for BlakeÕs Revelations to come out and discuss how these RFAÕs
and other trades impacted each team and their record for the 2009 season!*
